  • HD is lower quality compared to 4K, which captures much more detail and provides greater editing flexibility. You can see an example video showcasing the difference between HD and 4K on various devices, with most people noticing the distinction on larger screens like iPads and TVs but struggling to tell on phones.

4k is essential for high quality screen grabs.

  • So much of the music comes from the vibe on your wdding day it’s hard to plan ahead of time without attached to a song that might not work. Although we know roughly what songs to use, the editing process determines the song we chose.

  • If we want to use a kinda unconventional song, which we think is awesome, we will send it over first to check if you're okay with it. But if you’ve seen our videos, you will know what kind of music and vibe we love and go for and expect something similar.

  • An edited ceremony in your package means we create a polished, curated version of the ceremony that cuts between the bride, groom, and congregation.

An unedited Speech or Ceremony film is simply a camera on a tripod filming from beginning to end.

Sometimes photographers walk in front of the camera, and other disturbances such as the focus cutting out, whereas an edited version would cut to another angle if that occurred.

  • Short answer: It’s easier for us to film and edit and therefore we can take on more projects. And it’s more affordable for customers who love our style, but can’t pay the extra.

    Long answer::

4K video files are humongous. The extra storage and processing power required to capture and share that quality of footage is significant compared to HD. The last two weddings we filmed had over 300gb of data to process. That takes about 12 hours to upload onto my computer before I can start editing.

It’s therefore useful for us to create greate films at an affordable price which can be edited more quickly than 4k.

  • Indeed we do.

One song video (no Voice Over)

    Two song video (Voice Over)

You can also get a sense for what voice over vs no voice over. A voice over is a simple term I use to describe your vows or segments from speeches which I cut into the video. They aren’t essential, and don’t always make the final cut. But it’s worth knowing that our silver package doesn’t include any voice over recording.

  • Our packages don't automatically include all the unedited (raw) footage from the day, but we can discuss options if you're interested.

  • Screenshots are single frames taken from a video file. Photos have better quality. Screenshots might be less sharp when blown up on canvases or in low-light conditions during the evening, but generally are pretty nifty.

Check out handful of screengrabs we captured from our last couple weddings:

    Screengrabs Examples

  • Not typically. But it is possible to book us as a videographer and get upwards of 500 screengrabs, but only with the top package. We can supply you with hundreds of photos, but they are at a slightly lower quality that photos. So you would need to take a look at this example folder and ask yourself if the quality would be sufficient for you:

Everything in this folder is a screengrab. There are no traditional photographs.

  • In short: A full-length wedding film, often referred to as a comprehensive wedding feature. It encompasses most elements of a wedding day such as footage of the bride and groom's preparations, the wedding ceremony itself (in full), location photoshoots, and the events that unfold during the wedding reception.

The focus is on capturing real-time moments during the ceremony, such as the exchange of vows and rings, as well as important formalities like the speeches delivered during the reception.

    Film Structure:

When we create a Full Length Wedding Film, we focus on capturing the key moments like the Ceremony and Speeches as our main footage, which we call 'A Roll.' This forms the structure of the film.

The 'B Roll' includes behind-the-scenes shots, candid moments during the reception, photoshoots, and events between those key moments. It connects everything together.

We edit the 'A Roll' in real-time, so if the ceremony takes 20 minutes, it will occupy 20 minutes of the film (unless it's an exceptionally long ceremony). The 'B Roll' is edited to background ambiance or licensed music, featuring highlights from various parts of the day.

If there are specific moments you want as 'A Roll,' like the first look or first dance, please let us know in advance. This distinction helps us plan our camera setup and determine our filming style.

  • Yes, but only as an add-on to the Platinum package. You can view our extras page for more details.

What are add-ons I hear you say? Check out the next answer below.

  • Add ons are optional extras that you can pay for in addition to any package. Here is what we currently offer:

    • Full Length Wedding Film: 45 mins – 1:30 mins- Starting at £800 (applies only to Platinum package)

    • Drone footage: Quotes start from £500 and vary based on the location and technical difficulty (pending venue/regulatory approval)

    • Instagram Reel edits to popular music available on Instagram and/or Tiktok £100 per additional Reel - check out Keepsake Creates on Instagram for examples.

    • Photos extracted from video footage. £175 for 30 photos & £50 for clusters of 10 images thereafter.

    • Teaser Film 1 minute approx - £450, delivered in one week.

  • Voice over in your wedding videos involves playing audio from the ceremony and speeches over the music. A really good example of this is in this video where the groom is overcome with emotion.

Before the wedding they asked us not to include any of the speeches in the video, but we absolutely delighted we went for it because it turned out so well.

  • Unfortunately, you wouldn’t get a discount in this case. We would still need to set up the audio equipment to capture the speeches and ceremony.

We will make the best video possible within the package you select.

  • Yes, unless don't want us to, let us know before. We have an increased rate for media that we can’t post on social media because part of us having the prices set to where they are is so that we can showcase your wedding to other couples.

Top 10 Wedding Tips

Congratulations! Your big day is on the horizon. With a million things on your mind, sometimes all we need is a bit of affirmation we’re on the right track, or a nudge to get us moving in the right direction.

We’ve based our tips around things we learned from our own personal wedding experience, research, and experiencing the weddings of our cleints, and have included some great photos taken by the amazing photographers who photographed our wedding Kathryn & Rachel.

1.     Capturing memories through scent:

Buy a special perfume and aftershave to wear on your wedding day that you’ve never worn or smelled before.

Opt for scents that you fall in love with and top it up throughout the day. Reserve these fragrances exclusively for your wedding day and subsequent special occasions. The power of smell is extraordinary—it has the ability to transport us back in time.

Every time you wear that perfume or aftershave, the familiar scent will instantly teleport you back to the cherished memories of your wedding day. It's a unique and intimate way to relive those moments.

2.     Create a seating plan:

Plan out the seating arrangement for your guests to ensure that everyone, and most importantly you, has a comfortable and enjoyable experience. As well as a seating plan for dinner, you may also need reserved seating for the ceremony for bridesmaids and close family. You may also wish to discuss with your photographer/videographer(s) where they will be positioned (which will largely be dependant on what you want them to capture in these moments).

3.     Create a schedule:

While it's important to be flexible on your wedding day, having a schedule can help keep things running smoothly and reduce stress. A well-planned schedule can help you stay on track, ensure that everyone knows where they need to be and when, and give you a rough idea of how long each part of the day will take. Even if you don't strictly adhere to the schedule, having a general outline can help make sure that everyone is on the same page and can help the day run more smoothly.

Personal notes:

  1. We found it helpful to give the schedule to the Best Man who kept things running in order, rather than referring to it ourselves.

  2. (Groom) Having a morning schedule helped so much. There felt like so much time before the events of the day got underway, and I know if I didn’t have a schedule I’d have left getting ready to the last minute. Getting a kilt on isn’t a speedy process!

4.     Choose your music carefully:

The music you choose for your wedding can set the tone for the entire event. Choose songs that reflect your personal taste and will keep your guests entertained and if you don’t want the wedding ‘classics playlist’ on repeat, then be sure to make that known.

Our DJ asked for a list of ‘must avoid songs’ and a list of our ‘favourites’. We are so pleased we did this.

5.     Hire a good wedding photographer/ videographer:

  • The photographer should take the time to get to know the couple and understand their preferences, including must-have shots! They should offer guidance and suggestions for poses and locations, while also being flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances on the wedding day. Ultimately, the photographer should work closely with the couple to create a customized photography plan that meets their unique needs and captures the memories of their special day in the best possible way.

6. Have a backup plan for Scotland's unpredictable weather:

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Scotland's weather can be notoriously unpredictable, so it's important to have a backup plan in case of rain or other unexpected weather events. Whether you're planning an outdoor wedding or an indoor event, make sure to have a contingency plan so that you can enjoy your special day no matter what the weather brings.

Would you rather have a plan and not need it, than need a plan and not have it?

7. Make a couple’s email address:

It takes two minutes to set up a new email address, and what a time saver it is! You’ll have quotes, communications, and all sorts of unexpected admin flowing through your (and yours partner’s) separate email accounts, and keeping track of it gets increasingly stressful. This way you’ll both receive important emails, and have access to them, and their contents, at crucial moments. Just put your first names followed by ‘wedding’ and away you go!

8. Write a list:

Your wedding day morning is usually filled with various activities and preparations, which can be overwhelming. To ensure a stress-free and enjoyable experience, it's helpful to plan ahead by creating a checklist of essential items you'll need to take with you. This can prove to be a lifesaver in terms of organization and efficiency. Consider items such as your phone, speech notes, vows, and makeup. By sorting out these details beforehand and ticking them off on the big day, you'll feel a sense of calm and peace of mind.

9.     Transportation for guests:

Make sure transportation is organised or at least discussed. This may involve pre booking taxis, or informing your guests they need to do so if the venue doesn’t allow overnight parking.

10.     Schedule some time for yourselves:

With so much going on during your wedding day, it's important to take some time for yourselves to reflect on the day and enjoy each other's company. If you don’t schedule it in, you might not notice the opportunities slip away.

Bonus Point:

Remember, this is your special day to cherish and look back on fondly. Just as you carefully selected your guest list, it's equally important to show consideration to the team responsible for bringing your vision to life. At Keepsake Creates, we understand the significance of your wedding day and are committed to providing an exceptional service. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us for assistance via our chat feature or email. We'd be happy to help in any way we can.

Do You Really Need a Wedding Videographer?

Hiring a wedding videographer can be daunting when you have little to no experience dealing with one.

I will do my best to let you in on some of the pros and cons of hiring a wedding videographer, how it works, and explain why as a wedding videographer myself, I chose not to!

Let's dive into the top 6 things you need to know about the world of wedding videography, and explore its limitations and advantages to help you decide whether or not you actually need a wedding videographer!

How much a videographer costs

According to Bridebook couples spend £1,343 on their videographer(s), on average. The analyses then goes on to say the average wedding video package is £700.

The second figure is lower because what suppliers offer, and what people choose are different. Videographers often offer two or three packages to be affordable to a wider range of couples as well as there being lots of vendors offering entry level prices to compete in a busy market. That’s why the average price paid is double the average price offered.

For example, our average package cost is £980.

How to choose the right wedding videographer for you

Choosing the perfect wedding videographer is all about finding the right match. Here's a quick guide to help you out:

  1. Style Matters: Check out their sample videos online to see if their style matches your vision. Cinematic, documentary, or something in between? Find what clicks.

Here’s an example of our wedding video highlight video

  2. Price Shop and Compare: Look around online to compare prices and packages. Some newbies might offer great quality at a lower cost, so keep an eye out for hidden gems. Click here to add our prices to your list.

  3. Compatibility Counts: You'll be spending your special day with them, so liking their personality is key. Meet or chat with potential videographers to see if you vibe well and if they understand your vision.

  4. Reputation Check: Don't forget to read reviews and testimonials from their previous clients. It gives you an idea of their work ethic and reliability.

  5. Ask about the delivery timeline for the final video. Do you want to see your video while you’re still on your honeymoon?

By considering these points, you'll be on your way to finding the wedding videographer who will capture all the special moments of your big day in a style you love, without breaking the bank. Happy hunting!

How to film your wedding on a tiny budget

If you're on a tight budget and looking for cost-saving measures for capturing important moments, consider the following tips:

  1. Explore emerging videographers: Look beyond the first pages of search results to find up-and-coming videographers who may offer equally high-quality productions at lower prices. These professionals are often looking to build their portfolios.

  2. Post on wedding suppliers' pages asking if any couples would like to film your wedding for free. Audacious, I know, but you'd be surprised how many people just want to build a repertoire and would jump at the chance to get the gig.

  3. Enlist the help of friends or family members who have some experience with filming. Provide them with guidance on the key moments you want to capture, and ask them to film using their smartphones or cameras. This can help you save on the cost of hiring a professional videographer.

    • Note: For your guests and family to be emersed in the joy of the day, consider encouraging a select few to capture those precious moments. This does add a little pressure on those individuals responsible for filming to nail those key moments, so please remember, they aren’t professionals. If they don’t get it quite right, don’t be upset with them.

  4. Create a spreadsheet to compare price with quality by following these instructions:

    1. Step 1: You need four collumns; Videographer Name/Website, Price, What You Get, Rating/10 (of their sample videos).

    2. Step 2: Research videographers, watch their sample videos, get quotes, and fill out the cells with the relevent information

    3. Step 3: Organise the “Rating/10” collumn from ”Highest to Lowest”

    4. Step 4: Now look down the Price Collumn. You will hopefully notice a supplier who is cheaper than the others around it for the same (or similar) quality, and delivery (which means what media you get at the end of the day).

By employing these tips, you can find a balance between quality and affordability.

How to communicate your creative vision to your videographer

If you have specific preferences for music, shots, styles, and colour grading for your wedding video, it's important to communicate those desires clearly with your chosen videographer before fiming commenses.

A professional wedding videographer will listen attentively to your vision and work closely with you to understand your unique requirements.

When you submit for a quote, include a shot list you want. Provide examples of videos that inspired your ideas. Use your imagination because you can request anything from your videographer. The worst-case scenario is they’ll just say no. It’s that simple. Be creative! But don’t be surprised if the price goes up if you ask them for an orbital shot from a helicopter.

What films and media most videographers produce

You can expect to receive a collection of beautifully crafted films/videos capturing the highlights of your special day. These films will may include cinematic highlights, speeches, and short reel-like content. The exact content and duration of the films vary based on the package you choose and the specific services offered by the videographer. Be careful to read what you’ve agreed to carefully so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Here’s some examples

  1. Highlight Reel: This is a short video that highlights the best moments of the wedding day, usually set to music.

  2. Feature Film: This is a longer, more cinematic-style video that tells the story of the wedding day in a more comprehensive and artistic way 30-90 mins

  3. Ceremony Cut: This is a video that captures the full ceremony, including the exchange of vows and rings.

  4. Reception Cut: This is a video that captures the speeches, toasts, and dancing at the wedding reception.

  5. Recordings: Uncut clips and edits of your ceremony, first dance and speeches.

  6. Reels/TikToks/Shorts: This is a video, or series of videos that can be uploaded to TikTok or Instagram, filmed in portrait and edited to your favourite songs.

  7. Save the Date: This is a short, fun video that is used to announce the couple's engagement and wedding date to family and friends.

  8. Engagement Video: This is a video that captures the couple's engagement, often incorporating a romantic proposal or a photo shoot.

Whether or not videographers can also take pictures

Yes, some can!

Some wedding videographers also offer photography services independently from video, like us, but keep in mind a single person can't film and photograph simultaneously from the same camera.

It's important to plan and communicate in advance which moments you'd like them to capture through photography and which ones through videography so perhaps a tripod camera can capture your ceremony and the videographer can also go and take pictures. There’s risk here too, because now the video camera is unattended.

However, it's worth noting that dividing their attention between the two tasks may affect the level of detail they can focus on. So, it's essential to discuss your priorities and expectations with the videographer to ensure you get the best possible results for both mediums.

An advantage of videography is that still frames (screen grabs) can be extracted from the footage. These may appear to be photos, but are actually just moments taken from the video files.

Does videography therefore replace photography since they can make a video and give me screen grabs?

For some, maybe, but I wouldn’t rely on it. Screen grabs aren’t as high quality as photos and filming serves different purposes to photography. The technique to get the shots differ meaning that a lot of shots you’d expect from photographers won’t be present in the videographer’s repertoire.

Finally, why didn’t I, as a wedding videographer, hire a wedding videographer for my own wedding?

Hi, I’m Scott, the videographer of Keepsake Creates.

My wife and I spent a lot of time discussing the pros and cons of hiring a wedding videographer and ultimately decided against it.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to switch off the ‘filming’ part of my brain if a videographer was present on the day. I was concerned I would see them make different creative choices to what I would do in the situation, and that those thoughts would distract me from experiencing the day.

There was even a moment we considered setting up my camera on a tripod to film speeches and our vows (etc.), so all I would have needed to do was aim and press record. But I’m so glad I didn’t do this as I’d have been stressed. The day was beautiful, and importantly, busy!

I needed every bit of free headspace to chat with family I hadn’t seen in years (this was as we were coming out of the last Lockdown), and most importantly, experience the day with my wife to make real moments that would live on in my memory.

Fundamentally, the videos, pictures, décor, food and hotel, were (and for more people ‘are’) only a minor blip on the radar of importance when compared with the sentimentality of being around the people, and person I love most, and being as present in those unforgettable moments as I could manage.

If I were you, I’d figure out how to make some time together throughout the day to catch your breath, and be present. Because damn, the day goes too quick.
